BANQUET IN THE STREETS

Staff organizer La Mikia Castillo reports that he Banquet in the Streets was amazing as so many supporters of the boycott and workers came, picketed, enjoyed great food, an awards ceremony and music. “It was beautiful, and very inspiring,” she said.  She went on to note that one of the most inspiring moments at the event was Maria Elena Durazo, head of the County Federation of Labor,  announced to the gathered that the Hilton LAX had lost its lawsuit against the city.  The result?  The living wage is here to stay! But the fight continues. The workers at the Hilton LAX are still fighting for the right to organize, and we are committed to staying in the struggle with them until they see justice come to pass.  La Mikia also thanks Deacon Guy, Helen, Tom Lenert, Rev. Eggebeen, Rev. Altagracia and members of Holy Faith, Reb Jason, Rev. Scott Fritz and members of New City Parish, Fr. Gene and members of St. Josephs, and our CLUE LA interns for coming out and supporting the workers at this event.
